Questions that leave room for a real answer
A relationship question is more useful when it invites understanding rather than requests reassurance in a disguised form.
Ask about present experience
Try asking what has felt close lately and what has been difficult. Listen for practical issues such as fatigue or privacy as well as feelings. Do not assume a different level of desire is a statement about the relationship’s future.
Make boundaries ordinary
Ask what is welcome and what should be left out. Explain that a no will be respected without a debate. Agreement to talk, receive a gift or spend time together does not imply consent to another activity.
Know which answers need outside support
A clinician can help assess a worrying change in desire or pain. Appropriate relationship support may help with ongoing distress. The questions here are editorial prompts, not a diagnostic tool or a treatment method, and they do not guarantee a particular outcome.

Before you decide
Am I ready to hear a preference that differs from my own without asking the other person to fix my reaction?
